Decided to go tee total for a year next year and maybe longer term, have decided over Christmas that I wasn`t enjoying the beer and wine that I was consuming and that it`s time to knock it on the head. Anybody else going to do anything similar?? Been thinking about this for ages, the only thing that will gripe me will be those who call me "boring" for not having a drink, I think I`ll be having the last laugh:laugh:
Got sportives and possibly LEJOG to train for next year so this should help a great deal!!

Go for it, just keep it in the day and don't worry about what others say. I did it over 23 years ago, ok I might be a bit of a boring bastard but hey I'm alive....^_^

I have protracted 'arid periods' punctuated by 'deluges' and the odd 'drizzle'. The deluges coincide with festivals and tours. I'm currently enjoying a period of light rain. Each day of this year's tour along the Danube started and ended with alcohol consumption and the ride was enriched by it. I even resumed smoking after a ten year hiatus for the last ten days of the tour; 0-30 per day overnight. I had my last cig just before getting on the train back to Leeds. Did 2 x 100km audaxes the weekend after getting back with no discernable deterioration in performance.

Alcohol and fags, I can taken them or leave them.

Sometimes drinking is boring, sometimes is isn't. Mostly it isn't

I went t total in Feb just after having my gallbladder out.Boring you all again won't mention it again. This is the first Christmas in 45 years i have not had a drink, today it has been cola.My mates tried to get me back on thev stuff during the summer but i explained why and they have been as good as gold since.Funnily enough i have never had the craving either.
My thoughts are i enjoy my cycling better than boozing,i am carrying less weight. So give it a go

I've been teetotal for periods. Sometimes, ooooh minutes at a time.
No seriously I have knocked it off for a while. Not for any other reason than I stopped enjoying the wine or beer.
When I fancied a glass again I had one.
I don't like 'boozing', don't like getting drunk, but I do enjoy alcohol and a drink with friends and the way it lubricates an evening with friends.
A glass of red in the evening helps me unwind almost as much as a ride.

In also planning to go tee total as soon as these last 5 bottles of carling zest are gone. Will also be finally quitting the cigarettes from the new year. Been cutting down slowly by going for a few days at a time without them (been smoking ten a day mon- fri). Worst bit will be work as that's the only place I smoke.

Been cyclig 4 months now and all this tee total stuff is to help me get in better shape for a load of sportives next year , biggest being the wiggle long one @ 127 miles.

I drink a bit, eat a bit, ride a bit. All in moderation, with the occasional 'correction'. The only thing I really packed up was smoking, sometime in the last century. Anybody that gives up any vice is doing well I reckon, 'cause it ain't easy if you've got used to doing it.

If your only drinking Carling Zest your almost teetotal anyway, we had a bottle of Asa own brand shandy out of the fizzy pop aisle with a higher proof rating than that stuff.

You sir, have been robbed.
