Im considering a turbo trainer for the Winter but dont want to put a road bike on it. I want to use my Koga with 28 C tyres. Is this possible and if I use a tyre with tread, is it going to make hell of a noise? Can you get turbo trainer tyres size 28c?

I dont want a virtual reality turbo trainer but one I can alter the resistance from the handlebar. Any suggestions?

I understand the more tread the more noise, just like when riding on the road.
The Cyclops Fluid 2 takes various sizes of wheels including 28c and resistance varies depending on rear wheel speed, i.e. you use your gears.

There's nothing to stop you using a wheel of a different size, if it's only going on the turbo. Almost every basic mag turbo will have a resistance lever which can be mounted on the bars...

Unless you're riding a fixed, you already have resistance control on your handlebars in the shape of your gears. Unless you're specifically interested in the distance you've travelled on a turbo (recent thread here) your wheel speed doesn't really matter, so you can increase resistance by riding in a higher gear. Most turbos with a decent level of resistance should give you more than enough to push against in your highest gear with typical road bike gearing.

I find the manual-type resistance lever things a bit of faff with the cable dangling. Without checking too hard, they probably add a bit to the complexity and hence price against equivalent non-variable turbos. Personal choice in the end though.

I got one of these last year and it does the job just fine for me. Comes with 5 different levels of resistance via a controller that you attach to the handlebars. I don`t know how far you want to push yourself on it but it does the job for me. I use it in conjunction with some of the Global Cycling Network training videos that you can find on youtube
