Turbo trainer skewer

Hi all, I've got the new turbo trainer and am putting together. For some reason it comes with its own rear wheel skewer, do I have to use this one on my bike? Along with the turbo wheel it's not exactly a quick system to switch the bike from road to turbo use.

No mate the usual one is fine . The only downside is that it may get scratched by the turbo clamp.
No big issue for me but depends on how expensive your bike is or if a few scratches bother you .

Ok thanks. If the scratches only affect the skewer ends then I am not bothered as I don't have an expensive skewer. Cheers

Great thanks mate. I think I will look around for another rear wheel that I can swap, don't really fancy having to change the tyre if I fancy a quick road blast. Just thought I've never changed a road tyre yet!

Surely if you are swapping to a different turbo wheel, then it's quicker to have the turbo skewer already attached than swap the other skewer from your standard wheel?

There have been a few threads in here where people have not used the turbo specific skewer and ended up falling off after bike dislodged from turbo. It all boils down to the shape of your standard skewer and the turbo itself I guess.

I've used the bike that I borrowed for the trainer. Yes the skewer that comes with the trainer looks tougher than the one on my good road bike so it makes sense to use the turbo skewer, especially as I am 15st. The end of my carbon bike skewer are plastic.

It's more the shape that was thinking of. Mine, at least, has a totally different shape for the Tacx to the Campag skewer. I wouldn't trust plastic in this scenario either, I agree with you.
