Turning handlebars puts the brakes on

Hi

As title; yesterday i changed the cable inner of my rear brakes (discs). I should have changed the outer as well I think because there was a blockage in the last couple of inches but not having a new outer, I shortened the old one as a temporary measure (to cut the blocked bit off).

It all works great on the work stand but this morning as I manoeuvred the bike out of the house it was apparent that as the handlebars are turned (in the extreme, not under normal riding) the rear brake is applied.

What did I do wrong?

But can only be the right length or it wouldn't be taut enough to pull the brakes when the lever was pulled would it? Or is that incredibly thick of me?

yes, but you've effectively changed the length of the cable by cutting back the outer.

In effect shortening your outer has changed the effective length of the cable

I could be talking bollocks though!
