TV is rubbish. Apart from the BBC.
And there is no one even comes close to the beeb for natural history, as proved by last nights "Highlands - Scotland’s Wild Heart". The BBC is worth the licence fee just for its wildlife programmes.
Didn't see that, but I did watch a great programme on The Silk Road, followed by Mary Beard on Ancient Rome - two brilliant pieces of television that I genuinely believe would simply not have been made by any other organisation in the world. I'm another of those who finds plenty to watch without having to go beyond Freeview. And yes, probably most of it is the Beeb.

As previously said, the BBC is as bad as everything else. There is nothing to watch on an evening apart from the odd good series like Peaky Blinders. I wish that the BBC would pay less to 'talents' like Graham Norton and get back to producing decent TV. I'd happily not pay a license fee and not watch BBC if it was possible to just pay for BBC radio, which is pretty good.

I'm with you on Peaky Blinders.

The BBC does documentaries very well, and apart from Little Knees watching Octonauts that's pretty much all we watch.

All serials these days seem to be high-drama involving violence, gore or general stress of some sort or other, and frankly they don't appeal at all. We tend to buy DVDs of films we want to see.

Netflix, because of the content available on demand for the price they charge.
Perhaps ironically, a lot of what I've been watching on there lately is from the BBC (The Musketeers, the first two seasons of Peaky Blinders, The Fades).

I think the only other freeview channel I watch as much (as the BBC) is Film4. I'm enjoying "The Hollow Crown" very much, and am intrigued to see what will be the next "Trapped" from BBC Four[1]. I could do without stuff like "Strictly Come Dancing", but have never been under the impression that the BBC should cater exclusively to me.

[1] All4's "Walter Presents" strand probably comes close, although you have to sit through those insufferable Lexus adverts to watch those.

Pleeeeese don't get me started on tv.Sodding commercials get on my nerves.I wanted to watch the 16-30 Sky News today,it began at 16-33.Most progs begin about three or four mins after the hour mark, then a bank of adverts cut in about ten past the hour for around seven mins.We are paying to watch adverts.Argh.

Recreate the Netflix experience by flicking through the DVD's in Poundland...

So you've not used Netflix then?

I am constantly amazed at people moaning about TV and TV programmes. What is the matter with the off switch? Do something else instead. Listen to music or the radio, read something, make something, go for a bike ride, do some gardening.. anything...anything apart from watching TV then moaning about it.

The premise of the thread is that I've done something about it and cancelled our (admittedly very 'light') TV package and gone for freeview only. And in our house that basically means we watch anything with Sir David Atttenborough, or any of the Springwatch team, or Neil Oliver in it. And Octonauts.
