Two questions

Within the next month I hope to be able to order my new bike, a general purpose / tourer. Basic requirment Alfine 11 gears and disk brakes.
There is plenty of choice of bikes with Alfine 11 gears but two things I am not sure of:
(1) what size front mech will be best for touring (assuming I can change the one on the bike)At the moment I am looking towards the Dawes Nomad.
(2) I fancy disk brakes but this is not an option on the Nomad. Is there any advantage useing Disk brakes over V or Cantilever brakes on a touring / general purpose bike.

Briefly on the brakes to get things started...
Ideally if you're touring you want the simplest ones possible so there's less chance anything will go wrong when out and about. I've toured with disc brakes and v brakes however, and not had problems with either. Potentially more messing about with discs I would say.
