Tyre bumps

I put a new tyre on last night (4seasons 28), and there's a noticeable inward bump at one point. I let down the tube and squeezed/wiggled the tyre about, trying to get it to sit better, but the bump was still in exactly the same position when I pumped it back up again.

Could this be a fault in the tyre, or if I took the tyre off and put it back on again is the problem likely to go away?

I hate taking tyres off and putting them back on again.

I bought a set of michelin mountain bike tyres once and had a similar problem. I spent ages messing with it thinking it wasn't seated properly.

Turned out the tyre was indeed deformed as a result of poor manufacturing.

So yes - Perfectly possible that this is the case.

Are Continental (4 seasons) usually fairly reliable, or could this be a not-unusual problem?

What would I look for if I'm inspecting a tyre that I think may be faulty?

I deflated it and moved the tyre around enough that I doubt it could still be trapped, if I'd trapped it the first time. Will probably take it off and replace it and see what that does, it was very difficult to put on but I put that down to it being new.

I've used 4-seasons for several years and never had a problem.

I'd mark the area where the 'lump' is, then take the tyre off and inspect the area carefully. If there is a manufacturing flaw, then it should be visible or capable of being felt.

If you can't find anything then remount the tyre and see if the lump is still there. If it's in the same place, it's probably a flaw in the tyre.

Try using talc on the tube and inside of tyre. Some rim tyre combos can be a pain. 4 Seasons are usually fine to fit. PS having a tyre at room temp helps at this time of year (ie when its freezing outside)

I deflated, wiggled, and then reinflated and that seems to have improved the problem, if not solved it completely.

So looks like the probable cause was trapped wind. 8-)
