They last until they are worn out......... there is not set time scale or mileage, it is dependant on many things!

I thought there may be a point when they become too much of a puncture risk? There are now a number of small gashes in the tyre (2-3mm). I can see the layer below the rubber through a few of these.

Yes... when they are worn they will be more prone to puncture, however, the point at which they become this worn doesn't come at a particular time or mileage.

I just had to replace a Bontrager R1 after about the same distance, either my fault for not aligning the brakes properly or deterioration of the tyre wall.

Though it must have been before I put new blocks on shortly after.
