Hi all
Picked up my cube peloton compact yesterday and hoping to get out for my first ride tomorrow (1st road bike)
Had a bit of an issue with the valves when I was checking pressure which basically meant the tyres went flat(didn't know what I was doing)
Can anyone tell me what is the best pressure for the tyres? I'm 12 1/2 stone as I've read they have to be set according to weight.
Thank for any advice
Jamie

It'll tell you on the sidewall of the tyre. About 100 psi, at a guess.

It gives me a wide range between 85 and 115
Wasn't sure if to go to lower pressure or higher

Do them at the lower end for your weight, but then again you might find you want them firmer so a bit of trial and error may be needed. Also firmer tyres resist punctures better as well.

Do you have a track pump? If not then you get them high enough anyway.

If you haven't got one just buy a Topeak Joe Blow, you can't go wrong with those.

Thanks for the replies, will pump to around 100 and see how I get on. I can't imagine I will be breaking any records tomorrow for my first time on any bike for 20 years ^_^

Hi,

The typical rule of thumb for skinny road tyres is around your weight
in kg in psi, i.e. around 80 psi for I presume 23/25mm tyres.
Bit more rear, bit less front, 10% to 15% difference typical.
Bit more pressure for 23mm

Too low causes pinch flats. Too high is simply pointlessly
uncomfortable, slow and tiring on bad roads, but great on
great roads *, so as ever its getting a good compromise.

85 psi rear and 75psi front is good place to start with 25mm Lugano's.

rgds, sreten.

* On bad roads too hard feels fast but really isn't, not letting the
tyres do their suspension job is harder on the bike and the rider.
