Tyres for LeJOG?

I will be riding LeJOG on Aug 15th, and before I commence the bike will be getting a new chain, cassette and tyres.

Now in the beginning I decided that I would go for the Conti 4 Season tyres, good wear factor, reasonably light, and very puncture proof. I ride near enough everyday on these tyres and rate them very highly indeed and have experienced very little in the way of problems.

But now after riding my Audax bike and also my "best" bike that are both fitted with Pro Race 3 tyres for some decent distances. Now I also rate the Pro Race 3 tyres very highly and have also experienced very little in the way of problems.

I'm not to sure which I would prefer now, as both tyres have their good and bad points.

In saying all that, I know deep down in my head that the Conti 4 Season is the more suitable choice for what I intend to do, but I do really do like the way that the Pro Race roll, so much sweeter than the 4 Seasons.

But which ever tyre I do decide to go for, I shall be carrying a spare one, so duration is not really a factor.

Which is the 4 Season and also the Pro Race 3.

I did my 6-day LEJoG in 2008 on Pro3's and they were absolutely fine. One incident where I picked up a wood-screw from the hard shoulder of a dual carriageway which went right through a sidewall - I just unscrewed it, replaced the tube and carried on.

They are great tyres and fine for the job.

I used Pro Race 2 for my LEJOG and would happily use them or the 3's if I did it again. Have you considered Michelin Krylion Carbon? I've been using these for all my riding this year, including racing. Grippy, probably a little more puncture-resistant than Pro Race, but still light.

I used a pair of Spesh Armadillo Nimbus for my LEJOG, no punctures at all along the way. Rear tyre was a bit worn by the end though.

Ialso used Specialised Armadillo for my LEJOG - no punctures or even loss of air in 1024 kms.

I used Pro Race 2 for my LEJOG and would happily use them or the 3's if I did it again. Have you considered Michelin Krylion Carbon? I've been using these for all my riding this year, including racing. Grippy, probably a little more puncture-resistant than Pro Race, but still light.

I'm probably the only person in the world who hates Krylion Carbons*...
Much prefer PR 3's. Find the Krylions, heavy and wooden and not great in the wet. PR3s are the complete opposite, light, fast, grippier than a grippy thing, great in the wet and pretty reliable too for such a gossamer light tyre.

*I'm regularly stoned for this view on YACF.

I'm going to stick with my Bontrager racelite hardcase, which have kevlar lining. Not had a puncture yet (touch wood) and I'm well used to them.

Schwalbe marathon racers are by far the best tyre I have ever toured on. They have very low rolling resistance, are light and have not punctured in two years.

Having said that I rode LeJOG on continental contacts which are bombproof but heavy.

I've not seen a good word written about them.

I used Panarace Pasela Tourguard tyres. Found them to be fine with lightweight and low rolling resistance.
