Tyres for rollers and turbo trainers

Whichever option you go for should you fit special tyres for these, or just turbo trainer where there could be more resistance?

I have a dedicated bike for the turbo trainer but I don't use special tyres. Same tyres I use on the road.

I take it this second bike would be identical in geometry, gears etc to the your bike?

This bike is my single speed that I take out mostly in the summer months. The rest of the year it lives mounted on the turbo trainer.

I use my winter bike on the turbo with the same tyres that I use on the road - Conti Gators.

One day I might get a specific turbo back wheel if I see one cheap on eBay but no need atm.

No special tyres needed for rollers or turbo. That's what old/worn tyres are for.

If noise is a consideration, slicks seem to keep my turbo pretty quiet. Not getting on it keeps it 100% silent.

If you use a turbo, whatever tyre you use, the rubber will soon be splattered all over the wall behind you!

Maybe if you use Michelin. I've never had any issues remotely like that.
