The Kid went last night, pronounced it brilliant, and has slept more or less continually since. If I hear any more I'll let you know.

We went yesterday (Sat) with pitch standing tickets. Joined the queue in the morning and were finally in at about 5.45pm. Made our way to the inner circle, with our backs to the circular walk (so went the boys went walkabout we were about 5ft away. The Hours and Glasvegas were OK, was a bit underwhelmed TBH. But U2 were great, the show was amazing, I thought - great music set. Yes, a fair few oldies including PITNOL (Pride...). The stage was something else, the whole circular screen expanded down - quite feat of engineering really. Must have been quite a sight from the stands, but this was my first pitch standing experience - definitely do it again. Apparently the sound for the first few songs on the Friday night was off close in (my friend went both nights), but he had no complaints on Saturday. I gave mrs ao a bell in the middle of it - she didn't hear me, just the music - not surprisingly...t'was loud, but I did have ear plugs in to cut the dB.

Just home, a little underwhelmed. Ok, U2's music never was going to set the heather alight but the sound was not as good as last year and, whilst f****** huge, the stage set didn't really work as well as a normal stage. The video screens, which you rely on to see the band, were in the form of a cylinder above the stage. Clever but you can't see it as well as a flat screen. Plus, for about half of the concert the screen split into mesh-like segments. Impressive but again, hinders what you can actually see.

I heard that Lance Armstrong was at the Glasgow concert, is that right?

Funny you should say that, my son also said tonight that he would like to see Muse live.

Being close to the stage is a completely different experience, that's what being at a concert is really about. I'm looking forward to the kids being a bit bigger and doing that with them.

Interesting what you were saying about the 360 screen not not being that good at relaying the band in action, because it expanded or was used for various images etc - I hadn't really appreciated this because I was close and could directly see what was going on. I must ask some friends who were in the stand heights what they thought.

This video seems to have been taken very near to where we were standing... but on Friday: Vertigo

Would have been a good opener.

That drop-down screen did not come down as far as that last night, I think they must've had a problem with it. The top third didn't open very much.

Also, did you hear them overloading the PA? That had to shut it down completely for about a minute to get it back up again.

I was in the stand and the screen was positioned well. I'm not surprised they overloaded the PA, it was a great sound from where I was sitting and wonderfully loud too.

Getting this back on to a cycling theme... I think I'm going to make one of those laser jackets for the winter nights.

It was maybe a little better than average but nowhere near as good as the sound last year. The sound last year was among the best PA sounds I've ever heard at any concert.
