Hello there, I just got my first bike which is also electric, Ecotric Seagull. The first thing that caught my eye was an ugly weld seam at the back wheel junction on both sides (see pictures). I got pissed off considering it's not a $300 bike from target. Am I being too dramatic? Is it acceptable? Is it safe? Would you return it?

Is the frame material aluminium? Welds in aluminium tend to look like that. Some brands, such as Cannondale, take the time to sand down and smooth the welds, but most don't bother. The welds on my most used bike (a Planet X London Road) look like that, and I've put tens of thousands of miles onto it. I wouldn't worry about it: it's not an indicator that the welding's poor.

PS: Welcome to CC, @Genkuru!

I am sorry to say but that is normal on a low cost frame, one that is fairly equivalent to a $300 bike from target. The rest of the money you spent went on other things like the battery and motor. It may be ugly, but it should be functional.

Sort of weld I'd do on a Friday afternoon when it's nearly hometime....nothing up with it just not so pleasing in the eye.
