I have a bike that has ultegra 6700 on it purchased maybe 3 years ago , I'm pretty sure its hollowtech ?
question is can I strip off the group set and put in on any bike such as a steel frame with a 130 mm rear spacing or an older aluminium frame ?
and is their any frame I cant put the chain set on before I go looking to buy one .
thanks

It's impossible to answer that question without seeing the recipient frame.

You also need to know whether you have an English or Italian bottom bracket. English have a left hand thread on the drive side while the less common Italian has a right hand thread.

There's been a recent thread HERE about fitting modern hubs to classic frames which may help.

As for BB's, I built an 80's era Peugeot a couple of years ago and fitted modern 10 speed Campagnolo Veloce groupset to it. Once I'd cold set the rear drop outs, (even though it was alu, shock horror !!!!), it went together like a dream.

If you've got an English thread 68mm BB then the equivalent modern cups, (eg: Hollowtech II), will screw straight in, the same goes for Italian, just get the corresponding size in it's modern counterpart
