Saw a guy today cycling along towards the station, on a busy road, with his umbrella up over his head. [Facepalm smiley]

I've seen one too - I watched as he was blown off the road onto the grass at the side - good job he went that direction - though as an aid to having more space on the road it did seem to work as all the cars were giving him a really wide space!

What is potentially dangerous here is that the users are holding the umbrella in a hand.
A google search will bring up a number of handlebar attachments designed to hold the umbrella.

typically in Scandinavian countries Ive visited this is overcome by having a pillion passenger riding side saddle holding the umbrella - although on occasion I have observed the operation of individual umberellas
