I think your head teacher reinventing both the law and the guidance from on high if she thinks she can unilaterally decree that no one can be designated as off sick on any particular day without a doctors certificate. She's exceeded both her authority and her remit.

Has the head teacher considered if it is fair on overworked GPS to trouble them with such trivial problems?

That would be purely and simply wrong. I would challenge the school on that, ask them what example they think they are setting for their students.

I don't know that I could be bothered to argue with them, but equally I would worry a bit less about taking them out on a Friday to leave early to avoid the motorway madness that is a Friday here. As it is oneof mine have had less than 5 days off over their entire schooling. Strangely enough it's the one that we are being pestered about being a NEET. At what point do they become one?

Nice move Mr C! If the school won't sort it complain to the Office of the Information Commissioner.

None of this is going to come into play for the students for the future. So don't waste your time except to send a succinct email to the Head and copy th Educational authority, your MP, the person in cabinet who is in charge in a nice tone.

If something comes out of the email, thats fine, even not, move on.

Complaint under the Data Protection Act that the information they are holding is incorrect and that you require it to be changed?
I think the point was made up thread that the personal data that is recorded is in fact correct. The absence has not been authorised. The complaint is against that incorrect decision, not against the correct recording of the decision.
I have been a totally supportive parent all the way through my kids schooling. I have backed teachers decisions and sent the kids to school, maybe sometimes when they were too ill.

Then yesterday I got a message saying MiniUser76 is being marked as 'Unathorised absence' on Monday. He was off, I phoned in, all proper. Now what has happened apparently is that lots of other Year 10 children were tired after the DofE expedition, so the Academy Leadership Team decided everyone in Year 10 who was off on Monday was swinging the lead. I had a call with the Head of Year, and she said the only way out of this is a Doctors note or a prescription!

The tricky bit is that MiniUser76 also did the DofE walk, although when they went to the Olympics, they got back 1.45am and he was in on time the next day, they got back from a German trip at 2, he was in the next day at 9, he had 5 stitches in head, and 30 hours later was sitting a geography exam, so the school know he has plenty of form in not skiving off because he is tired.

Am I being overly touchy and should leave it, or do I stand my ground and get them to change it? Oh, and one last nugget, apparently it can't be changed because it is on the computer now!
Did you phone in and say what the cause of his illness is but they don't believe you?
