12 loan bikes, each with a helmet hung on bars lined up at the end of the playground ready for the first Bikeability session of the day.
Two instructors sat on bench at the other end of the playground by the gate.
Only children, parents and staff in playground.
9.00am bell rings, children go into school, parents leave playground.
First group comes out, go to fit them with bikes and helmets.......two helmets gone!

Bloody tealeaves.

On another (serious) note @Dave Davenport . Bikeabilty, is there enforced cycle hat rule then?
Reason asking is that my boy who starts Primary school in September has bikeability a year later. He doesn't wear a plastic hat and have no plans for him too either. So will they not allow him to do it if no plastic hat?

Depends on who the provider is, most insist but some don't. It's not a requirement of the Bikeability scheme itself.

See the wearing of the hat as a means to an end @ianrauk . The young 'un will have fun during the course and normal service can be resumed afterwards. Fighting your corner through the child will depriving him of a nice time. I've go no strong views either way but compromise might be the way forward on this one.

I see where you are coming from Vernon. But if he doesn't want to wear one then I won't force the issue. It will be up to him and him only. Of course I will speak to whoever is running the course to explain.
