Bob Crowe has just announced a two week strike on the underground. Regardless of the rights and wrongs, which can be discussed on the P+L forum, my hope is that we will see many more Londoners get the cycling bug.

Cycling is a mindset, and commuters will soon realise that it is actually much easier to commute 10 miles by bike than they imagine it is.

My main worry is where will I park my bike if the racks are all full.

What ever happens the roads will be a nightmare. The London road network can't handle the added traffic even if the majority choose to go by bicycle!

The racks are bursting at the seams at my place. Last summer there were just about enough but now there are perhaps 40% more bikes than spaces. You don't get a space if you are in much after 8 and they are piled up everywhere.

I remember the last tube strikes when there were loads of occasional cyclists out. It almost made me want to side with the taxi drivers...!

The Boris Bikes at the main hubs like Waterloo and Paddington will be gone by 7:30am ...... and with the potential nice weather this time, they'll be even more popular.

If they really want to annoy people, they should plan it for when the weathers bad.

Not sure if if boris bikes will be that popular during heavy rain

I heard it on the radio this morning, my first thought was 'How many weekend/cycle path BSO riders will try to brave the roads?'
It could be a very good thing for cycling & make people realise how much fun/cheaper/easier it is... Or it could just be absolute pure mayhem! I'm hoping it's not the later

And the fact that you don't need membership to use them anymore!

It always get new cyclist out which is good, but sometimes scary as their road sense can sometimes be lacking.
As to where to park, the knowledge of less obvious racks comes in handy.

The trouble always seem to be the people who decide to drive in instead (no idea where they park when they get there).

I might have to get back to commuting by bike those weeks, but as its currently 17.5 miles each way I haven't been doing it very often.

Could be just the kick I need to get back on the bike. Had 4 months off injured and though I'm sort of Ok now have totally lost my mojo. So thank you Bob

Someone told me once (so accuracy unverified) that in French strikes, the workers still come into work and operate the trains - however they don't charge the passengers. That way, the passengers are not inconvenienced, the cities run smoothly, but the shareholders/profits are hit.

Sounds like an excellent plan to me.

surely you aren't saying the british people want the day off to lie in the garden and drink pimms  .

previous experience of the Jubilee line on strike meant it ran a better service than on "normal days".

not overly bothered as I ride in anyway. maybe it will encourage some more people to ride in .
