“Do you want a lift home?”
“No thanks, I’ve got the bike”
“It’s getting dark – are you sure?”
“No, its ok, I’ve got lights”
“Its not that warm you know”
“It’s ok; I’ll soon warm up cycling”
"I can drop you about ten minutes walk from your house"
"It's ok. My bike takes me all the way there"
“Well, if you’re sure”

“Yes thanks, I’m sure”
“Well ok then. Any time you want to cadge a lift let me know”
“OK”

God – how ungrateful am I!

Haha, I have a similar issue with one of the girls on my course, she lives just down the road from me and can't understand that I'd rather cycle.

Well....

Last week I declined a lift and the lift offerer grumbled...turns out the "lift" was a request to go up and drive her home in the snow, then get my bike out of her car and ride all the way back

That is uber laziness from her imo

To be honest, when I got to her work and saw how deep the snow was.....I did understand why

Driving her car, I was the only person driving a 2-wheel drive car along the top side roads, a Terrano coming the opposite way did a 180 at a junction (albeit due to the pillock driving it) and down the hill further on another driver abandoned her 4x4 pickup...though the hill was not IMO too dangerous and was a slow but uneventful descent chugging down with engine braking

Must admit, some folk are really nice, and do say, "oh heck it's horrible, do yo want a lift?", Me, "nah got the right clothes, thanks though".

You never know when you 'might' need help, so turn it down nicely.

I have been getting 'how can you walk about in just a shirt' - this is between two buildings........... I've just ridden 8 miles in the snow/ice and am still cooling down.... ask me at lunch, then I may be cold.

...I've taken to getting in even earlier than normal as my office is like a sauna when I unlock it first thing, I need to fling the windows open after I arrive at work..if anyone else is already in upstairs in adjacent rooms though they moan like buggery

I usually end up saying; I need the bike at the week end or on to get to work on Monday.

A car stopped to offer me a lift when I was walking home on Tuesday. They were rather taken aback when I said I was happy walking home. It was only -9 after all.

Some people are too soft.
