“Do you want a lift home?”
“No thanks, I’ve got the bike”
“It’s getting dark – are you sure?”
“No, its ok, I’ve got lights”
“Its not that warm you know”
“It’s ok; I’ll soon warm up cycling”
"I can drop you about ten minutes walk from your house"
"It's ok. My bike takes me all the way there"
“Well, if you’re sure”

“Yes thanks, I’m sure”
“Well ok then. Any time you want to cadge a lift let me know”
“OK”

God – how ungrateful am I!
Never, ever accept an offer of a lift from a stranger.

Well done, Zippy.

Haha, I have a similar issue with one of the girls on my course, she lives just down the road from me and can't understand that I'd rather cycle.

Sound like she's trying to seal the deal to me!

bah! Beaten to the punch...

It is nice that people offer, but it can be hard when saying no.

I once accepted a lift, got home later and grumpier. Cycling is the best way to commute!

A work colleague accused me of being reckless and selfish for riding my bike during the snow/cold snap as I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter.

The main road was clear, and I got off and pushed on icy side roads. He said cars wouldn't be able to avoid me due to driving in the 'tracks' of snow, and if they skidded trying to avoid hitting me it would be my fault.

Last year I got asked if I wanted a lift home as it was snowy, icy & "impossible to cycle in" I politly decline and about 15 min after that I passed them trying to get up what passes for a hill around here... 15 hours latter I find them in a sleeping bag back in their office. I on the other hand had had a nice 2 hour ride & spend the night in my own bed.

I accept lifts occasionally. Depending on the weather. But only on the condition that they take my bike with me, or give me a lift the next (work) morning.
