Like others above I'd have a fleet of bikes for example; tourer, racer, folder, mountain bike and one of these just coz I like the look of it:

I've seen quite a few of these here in Denmark - they look even better IRL.

Personally though, I would get Vanilla Bikes in Oregon to make me the utlimate hub-greared seperable steel-framed touring machine, and all chromed and retro-painted.

This is just one example of their work:

If I had a lot of money, I'd never pick up a wet towel, or pair of socks or underpants for the wash ever again.

Obviously a proper road bike can't turn into a full-blown mountain bike, but if you read about the aforementioned 953 bike and look carefully at the photos, you will see that he specified enough clearance to put different-sized wheels on, and biggish knobbly tyres so it could morph into a nice cyclocross bike for dry conditions. (Not enough brake clearance for mud though.). Mind you, you could always specify disk brakes ...

.... And it would have to fold too.... oh, and....

Yes, that is a great bike and yes, I did look, but I am no massive expert on a lot of these things.

How about both?

Actually I wouldn't get either. I might buy a restored Citroen DS though, and the velodrome of course, which would be available to CC members FOC.

After a bit of weekend fettling and today's commuting, I have changed my mind.

I would have new brake cables, brake pads, cassette and chain before EVERY ride.

TBH Bikes arent really expensive (compared with cars). The most expensive bike I have heard of is £25,000 (forgot which bike it is now).
Most high end bikes are around the £7k-£8k mark which you could get plenty of if you really wanted.

I would just fill up my garage with every sort of bike.

I know that the only improvements I need are in my own fitness and stamina which isn't improved by the quality or cost of the bikes I ride, I'm more than happy with the ones I've got so I would prefer t spend the money going to more interesting places to ride it!

Happiness and contentment are priceless...
