Unlocking a Nokia Navigator 6210

Puzzle game procrastinator!
I have been given a Nokia Navigator 6210 which is currently locked to Vodafone UK. I would like to unlock it and I would like to do it without spending money!

I have seen sites which claim to generate unlock codes but the ones I tried didn't work and tried to send me to other pages where I could pay to have it done.

I have seen other sites which claim that this phone can only be unlocked by connecting a cable to it and using the right software to do it.

I know that I could take it to a market stall and pay someone to do it, but this is a freebie and I want it to remain a freebie. Any money spent on this phone could be better spent on a newer phone. I just want to get this phone working with my Orange SIM and see if I like it enough to keep it.

So my question is this - if you know for sure that this particular phone can be unlocked by entering a code, could you tell me where I can get that done free?

(Don't bother searching for the answer to the question - you will only find the same information that I did! I want the answer from someone who already knows the answer - thanks.)

Oh, another question ... Being a cautious kind of person, I worry about handing out the phone's IMEI number to some unknown organisation on t'interweb. If a ne'er-do-well type got hold of that number, could they use it to clone my phone, or otherwise mess with my head?

Nothing can be done with your IMEI number . . And i don't think you can get free codes to unlock this model phone... anyhow have a look in google if there is any.....

Is it worth getting a free Vodaphone sim and putting a couple of quid credit on it just to see if you like using it before you end up having to pay to unlock it?

Oh - I'd forgotten about this thread!

In the end, my sister gave me some money for Christmas and I used it to buy a Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray on eBay.

If anybody would like the Navigator, post below! Just promise to pay £5 to Parkinson's Research and it is yours. (I only have the phone and the charger - no memory card or maps.)

Takes me back a bit. Remember gone days when Nokia built, in my opinion, the best phones available. As a brand they appear to be completely off the radar these days.

Mazuma offer £3 for the 6210

I have been around the shops looking at phones I could load up with maps and my options seem to be expensive smartphones. Your 6210 looks like it would do just what I want and I am not worried about using Vodafone or even getting it unlocked. If no-one has requested it may I please thrown my hat in the ring for it. Consider the promise of a donation to your charity made. Thanks.

Compo - I've made a note of your address and deleted the message you posted because it was public and you might not want all and sundry to know your contact details!

I'll try and get it in the post tomorrow.

Don't bother paying me the postage - just decide what the phone is worth to you when you have had a chance to play with it and pay that to the charity.

I charged the phone up today to check that it worked, at least as far as I could without a Vodafone SIM in it. It's quite a nice little phone actually, as far as non-smartphones go.

I discovered that the previous owner had left 76 phone numbers in the contacts list so I got rid of them, plus a couple of photos that he'd left in the phone's memory.

I should get it in the post tomorrow. The PIN is still the factory default - 12345.

Thanks Colin. I anticipate getting it unlocked so I can use my present SIM. I believe it has quite a decent camera on it as well which must be an improvement on the VGA thing in my present phone, a £5 Samsung from Carphone Warehouse. It would appear maps are still available for it as well. I could have done with a sat nav or set of maps today when I became totally lost en route and unusually for me I had neither!

Compo - I sent the phone by 2nd class post this lunchtime so it should arrive, what, Saturday or Monday? I wanted to keep postage costs down so I used Jiffy bags for the phone and charger and put those inside a larger one. It should be safe enough unless the Royal Mail play silly buggers.

I hope you like the phone. It wasn't getting any use just lying around in a drawer here. Somewhat typically, somebody I had offered the phone to last autumn saw me wrapping it up and said that they wanted it now. I told them that they had left it too late, and had missed their chance!
