Two days in a row now I have been held up by a cyclist because I wasnt sure of what he was going to do.

The first instance involved a cyclist swerving around a car waiting to pull out.
And the second involved me having to wait behind him because we were passing a junction on a bend.
Afterwards I roared past both of them leaving them to the mercy of the cars they are now holding up but in situations like these, do you speed past them as soon as possible or wait patiently? I dont live in a busy area and they have strangely happened on the same bit of road.

Any advice?

Wait patiently until it is safe to overtake.
I haven't "roared past" another cyclist in years.:tired:

I agree completely with the first two responses.

Our road systems are just a fast, complex and badly coreographed ballet played out between cars, bicycles, lorries, pedestrians, assorted wildlife and other participants.

Much of the time road users might feel themselves being held up by others. If this happens to you and you put your 'roar past' hat on, you are allowing the possibility to emerge that your movements and responses will not make sense to other road users.

The trick is to be calm, patient, predictable, smooth and aware at all times. 'Roaring past' people who you believe to be holding you up will compromise your ability to be many (or any) of the above.

This applies to all road users.

You should come and cycle to London. sometimes 20 cyclists all fighting for position as they pedal away from the lights.

Sounds a bit like approaching the pavè.

You could watch how some of the top sprinters clear some room using their elbows / bikes / heads when they want to start their run to the line then practise that on the slow schmuck that is in the way

That could have been posted on a car forum just as easily as here. Chill. Don't drag yourself down to that level. A little patience is needed sometimes.

Unlike the dickhead pavement cyclist who looked me square in the eye before riding out in front of me causing some heavy braking. Then 30ft later going back on the pavement at a pelican crossing.

Some credit is due to him. At least he did look. Made no difference, but he did.

The onus is on you to overtake safely. That is what the Highway Code says. That should tell you all you need to know about this, as well as to who will shoulder the consequences of any accident that may arise as you ''roar'' around the next cyclist that has the misfortune of ''holding you up''.
