yup - Ive used I think every version of Windows since it started - I dont really notice the system - its just a means to an end - running the programmes i want to - Ive often seen those magazines "all you really need to know about Windows xx etc" and wondered what is in them - do people really spend time playing with the OS?

PUP=Potentially Unwanted Program, all the extras that get downloaded and installed without your onset or knowledge, and then have to spend hours tracing and deleting

Potentially unwanted, no potential at all, if I have not asked for it then it IS unwanted!

I thought the NT kernel is mostly the same as it ever was?

C's quite a bit fussier about syntax, though! I learnt it a while ago, but I don't use it very often, so it's more like Learn Once, Lookup-before-use Forever to me!

I've no idea if the NT kernel is still in there, but I didn't think Windows 95 had the NT Kernel. I'll let people who know Microsoft better tell us who's right

What I dislike about Linux (in 14.04 lts I think)
Doesn't go into standby mode when I close the laptop lid. it's ok, but I use windows most of the time.

I guess that's Ubuntu, from the version number and mention of LTS. It sounds like the lid switch isn't configured as you like it. Check System Setting -> Power -> When the lid is closed - I think the default is to do nothing if mains power is connected, which might be what you're finding.

If it's a more general problem with standby support for your laptop make/model, I'm not quite sure how you change it between computer-based-suspend and Linux-based-hibernation in an Ubuntu-y way, but there's plenty of community support around ubuntu.com, or as a last resort, the basic configuration file is /etc/systemd/logind.conf if you feel like using a text editor to force matters. It's probably HandleLidSwitch=suspend, and other values include poweroff, hibernate or ignore.

You're right 95 diff kernel. I mistakenly was talking about NT from same era 3.51/4.0.

yes , it doesnt change , stays blank with edge being the recommended browser on the list .

Not really - With phones, it is there when you buy it, and listed on the specs. You consent when you make the informed purchase

PUPs are installed sneakily and without your consent, nor are you informed that the are downloaded or active
