Just come back to cycling after a few yrs, bought a bike with a frame good enough to stand an upgrade (LeMond Etape) and will be upgrading during the winter.

current setup:
Shifters: Shimano Sora 8 speed
derailleurs: shimano Sora 8 speed
Cassette: SRAM 8 speed
Chainset: Bontrager Sport Triple

I'm looking to upgrade to Campag 10 speed (I prefer campag and used this in the past) and I'm hoping to do this in 2 stages. Could I replace the shifters/derailleurs/wheels/cassette to Campag 10sp and keep the chainset for now?

I'm confused as to whether the chainset would only be suitable for 8 speed systems. Will the chainring teeth be a different size and is there a difference in the spacing between chainrings?

Thanks in advance

The problem will be the chainrings - they will be too wide for a 10 speed chain - so the minimum you'll want to do is get new chainrings, as well as the other kit, but I'd have a look on the net/cycling weekly as there is one retailer doing Chorus/Record 10 speed (alloy) chainsets for a song - all pre carbon, but excellent, and very cheap.

Forget the groupset, upgrade that when it is worn out, it will make very little difference to the quality of your ride.

Concentrate on the wheels, tyres and contact points however and every pound you spend will be repaid in spades.
