At present on the Cadd I have normal pedals, But thinking of upgrading them. I dont want the clip your shoe in ones or the straps. So are there any decent alternatives ?

Also I have decided to change my phone app from Map My Ride to Strava, Not sure if this is a good thing reading the commenhe on here. Yesterday I used it for the first time and considering I was fighting the strong winds and rain, Plus the high tide that flooded the road back home I thought I did pretty well.

You've just ruled out the only possible alternatives.

So there are no other decent pedals apart from the plastic ones that come with the bike ?
You can get better flat pedals than the plastic ones that came with the bike.
Wellgo is a good brand to choose from, something like this, maybe?
Mind, they are not light and they bite your ankles

But swapping from one set of flats to another, more expensive set will not make one jot of difference.

This isn't my area of expertise but I'm aware that MTB riders are very particular about their flat pedals. Are they wrong?

Instinctively, I imagine that a larger platform is good, and I would have thought that pedals with pins would provide better grip. Is that not so?

And surely you don't have to spend much to get something better than the cheap lumps of plastic that are generally supplied with a new bike?

But like I said, not my area of expertise, so I'm happy to be corrected in any of the above.

No, I'm sure they have good reason for being very particular. I doubt if any of those reasons translate particularly well to road use, however.

Better in what sense?

Pedal flex isn't really a major consideration when the OP is probably riding in trainers or similar. Cast alu pedals are probably more robust for offroad use and can take a lot more hits than a plastic pedal would - but as you say, none of that really matters on a road bike.

No experience meself but DMR v8 get recommended a lot by flat pedal aficionados. I think it's the long pins which give good grip.
