Upgrades

The biggest upgrade is your pedalling style - full stop.

Take time out to watch the pro's in the big Continental races - there's a lot more to it than meets the eye.

Why?

You've got the bike to lose weight and get fitter. You should be filling your bottle cage with lead, not upgrading it to make it easier to pedal.

If you do want to lighten it, definitely go for rotating weight first i.e. lighter tyres and better wheels. Beyond that, just a comfortable saddle, adequate brakes and a thorough fettle, so that you will enjoy riding it more.

What he said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ To me an upgrade is only needed when the current set-up prevents you from doing what you want to do.

the bike weighs in at about 12kg and i wanted better wheels for training on and climbing the hills, some big hills by me too lol

Weight wise - try and weigh the forks as some of them weigh more than my frame does! Then look for some carbon forks with alloy steerers at around 600g.

Then it's down to the wheels.

Think of the weight as aiding your training
If you want to upgrade, go ahead. Wheels and tyres are your best bet.

i get were ur coming from angelo - and i do agree with you in principle and its defo not a bling thing with me

i just feel my training could be better on upgraded wheels - hard to describe really

Wouldn't you be better off keeping the bike as it is, as a hack bike/winter bike, or just selling it on? Then you could get a decent road bike if that's what you're after. Getting nice wheels and tyres and putting them on a bike that weighs 12 kilos doesn't make much sense to me.

I do understand where you are coming from. You will however reach a point of diminishing returns. I would go the tyre route first - usually much cheaper than wheels and see how you get on.
