I watched for quite a while yesterday afternoon and I didn't see a single person, car or bike, rushing. Talk about culture shock!

By the way, around 5pm yesterday, 14 horses in pairs crossed the screen travelling along the tramway. Anybody else see them? I assume that they were police horses but I've no idea why they would all be moving in formation.

Any large number of horses will often be ridden in formation like that I think. It's just like soldiers marching in line. Keeps everyone neat and together and predicatable.

Yes, the lack of rushing is refreshing, isn't it? Might be different come Monday morning, but then again, it might not! Having spent a week in Copenhagen once, there seemed to be a similar lack of aggro and impatience - and impatience is, to my mind, the key cause of aggro.

I prowled around on Google Streetview trying to spot the camera at that junction. From the images it's sending, it must be quite high up, and the Streetview images go wonky at high elevation. Can any other sad geek manage to spot the gizmo?

I had this webcam as a favourite for ages. Back in April, I cycled to Amsterdam, and as I got into the city centre, I suddenly recognised where I was - and it was this junction. I waved up at roughly where I thought the camera was located on a building, but couldn't see it, so I guess it is pretty high. Ironically, after looking at the site for weeks, I still managed to turn right when I should have gone left at the junction! At least they've moved the gentleman's pissior from the central triangle now though!

I keep going back to the stream.

It's not a word but ''planarchy'' seems a good way to describe the way traffic and walkers interact. It looks like chaos that has no evident hierarchy of priorities, yet there is a 'getting by' system underlying it all.

What I find interesting is that alot of parked up bikes appear to be not locked up.

The locks are attached to the frame and immobilize the back wheel. Google "ringslot" for pictures.

I don't know which is the better catch, the Fietscafe, or the nun on a bike...

I often see nuns, there's a convent near work, but they are on mobility scooters.

Well, let's put it this way....the locals use them. They also use security chains and padlocks that would safely anchor a supertanker.

OK, just thought it might be an option on the hub-gear bike as it hasn't got QR, it weighs a ton so you wouldn't want to carry it far and I don't live in the ghetto were your bike gets chucked in the back of a Transit if you blink and its not welded to the floor.

I stayed with a Dutch family of three who had seven bikes in the basement, ranging from titanium God-rockets
to absolute dogs that could barely be lifted off the ground. Even the dogs were security-chained when left out in the Amsterdam Badlands. Bike theft is a real problem there.
