Hi,

Just replacing the stock Shimano brake pads on my road bike with some Salmon Koolstops...

The brakes are Shimano 105's the type with the cartridge inserts, I have removed the brake pads and inserted the new Koolstops but something isn't quite right.

The raised lip thing (scraper) on the Koolstops is at the rear of the brake and not the front of the brake and I cant get the brakes setup (toed in) due to this lip causing theback of the shoe to be more raised than the front.

Is this normal, do I have to adjust the brakes to compensate for raised lip?

Or am I just complete stupid?

Oh and by the way I am off out to meet someone at 10:30 for a ride!

Cheers any help!

Russ

No matter I have sussed it, yeh the lip is meant to go there...

That lip at the back is a "squeegee", intended to wipe the water from the rim, aiding braking in the wet. Don't worry about toeing them in, unless you actually have a squeeling problem.

The raised lip should set the toe-in for you, at least with new pads.
Set the pad so that the front end and the scraper bit at the back touch at the same time (where front/back are front/back of the bike, not of the pad as it notionally moves over the wheel).
