Went out for a little ride this evening, the bit of road outside uni is 20mph and obviously I didn't exceed that by a mile an hour or two , so the cars/van behind was happy there. When I got out of the 20mph zone I had a little speed from the slope down and some mysterious burst of energy so I was bombing along at about 26mph. After a little bit, I'm not sure if I miss understood what the guy was doing as I didn't see till almost past, but he seemed to be hinting to me that I should be on the shared path by pointing to it a lot.

Something tells me that wouldn't of been safe at 26mph, when I was catching up cars on the main road ....really sensible suggestion of the ped

Ignore. People are stupid.

The DfT Guide to Good Cycling says that at 18 mph or above you should be on the road - not a cycle path!

The main problem with 'shared use paths' is that they are usually completely blocked by pedestrians

He probably considers himself an expert on the highway code, having read it since passing his driving test. (Leafed through a couple of pages in Smiths while the assistant looked for the new Clarkson...)

Probable can't tell the difference between what is printed in the Highway Code and what the Daly Mail thinks should be printed in the HC... Most drivers never look at the real thing after they pass their test and believe the stupid suggestions of some motoring journalists as to what they think should be in it.

You could always point out the fact that he’s a complete and utter twat…

Shared path and 30mph road – cycling with the children, at 9mph or less – use the shared path – nervous cyclist – use the shared path, on my own at 15+mph – use the road – if the motorist is such an inadequate driver that they find it difficult to negotiate a cyclist in “their” space, then just blow them a kiss and feel sorry for them…

If I see stablisers on one of the local cycle paths signs then I shall laugh my a*** off. ;)

Oh and Thomas, the correct term you should have used was to tell said fella to "do one"
