Used Cassettes/Chains

Having recently learned how to replace the cassette, I thought what a beautiful piece of metal a brand new shiny cassette is!
Before I chuck the old one in the bin, do folk find any use for the one that has been replaced?

And for that matter, is the bin the best place for worn chains?

I store up old cable, chains, cassettes etc in a box, and then every now & then, I take it all to the metal recycling section at the local tip.

Some people clean up old cassettes and then make arty things out of them. I think one encased in clear resin would make a lovely paperweight.

I usually give mine to the scrap man when he comes past, sometimes I'll take them down the tip and put them in the metal's skip.

Appreciate the replies everyone. Glad some folk are making use of them - how many coasters might you need @wonderloaf?!
