I reckon that it will be a short thread as there's very few really useful apps over an above what ship with the phones. I've added a few to my default Android apps:

Online newspapers - Guardian and The Independent
Route plotters/trackers - iMapmyride and Endomondo
Book reader - Amazon Kindle and Kobo
Social Networking - Posterous
Google goggles - a translator, qcode reader, barcode reader and object identifier
