Using Mirrors . .

I can't believe guys use mirrors during cycle commuting . . . it seems to me all the critical action is ahead of you and your scan of this shouldn't be diluted by what is going on behind you. . What happens behind you . . well, you can't do anything about it anyways . . just stay on your line. What is it with mirrors?

I like see what is abot hit me from behind if its all the same to you.. I dont like surprises like cars approaching from behind and if i can see what is approaching then i wont be so nervous and prone to panic
when a car whizzes past.

each to his or her own so to speak and i am not the only one who has mirrors on theyre bike. quite a few people here have them fitted To the handlebars of theyre bikes

I think I'd probably poop it if I saw something storming up behind me when I look in a mirror,that's why I have resisted buying a set.I don't have a problem with a cyclist who has mirrors though.

Just stay on your line doesn't always work,I seem to remember a car storming up behind me at Bow last year and I had to take evasive action and throw the bike nearer the pavement.Also another incident with an Upminster cab driver on the Blackfriars Underpass in October because I believe he was either on his phone or fiddling with it.

I'd but I don't think the use of mirrors (or not) is interesting enough.

Mirrors can be useful especially if you have neck mobility problems and find it difficult to turn your head far enough to look behind.

I don't use mirrors, never have TBH, but if I did it would have to be one of THESE.

Just because it's a safety thing doesn't mean it doesn't have to look good too

I prefer knowing what's going on around me at all times. I used a mirror when I was younger, but now it's shoulder checks and hearing.
I can't understand how a mirror check can be so much of a distraction, there's 3 on my car and I've not hit a lamp post yet

Wouldn't work on my bike unless I want to see low flying aeroplanes as opposed to BMW's.

And if I don't I am never going to get used to the road, and if I don't get used to the road, then I will never go out on my bike. You can see where I am going here I'm sure. I leave the main road as soon as I can and cycle along unamed roads.

I am not a danger to either myself or other road users, if I was then I wouldn't be on the road, but I like to see what is approaching from behind, so they won't take me by surprise and spook me into making a mistake. As I said, quite a few people on this forum have mirrors, people who are a lot more experienced than me.

Always have a mirror on my bars, just find it much easier to keep a check on things.
