V69 HEC can’t make it safely past a bike

Having a quiet cycle in Isleworth – coming up to a pinch point – oncoming driver adamant there is loads of room – I beg to differ…

It was one of those situations where the car is coming at you and shows no signs of slowing, let alone stopping. I thought it would hit me Due to lask of space for both a car and bike to safely pass eachother) so I stayed in primary until it slowed. I then stopped – I really thought she would reverse, but then she tried to squeeze past - the funny thing was she started flapping her arms around and saying there was plenty of room – I didn’t say a word apart from “thank you” – and then proptly started scraping the car along the railings to her left.

Pretty glad I didn’t trust her judgement….Link:

Wouldn’t load up as an mp4 – so exported as a .wmv and it went up in 5 mins

She was already on the kerb – the audio on the cam is terrible – but you can hear the crunch even on that – and, although the camera is pointing forward, I did look to my left – the left wing was scraping along the fence and I could hear it at the time

Sheesh, a few hundred pound repair bill rather than give way!

I'd love to know what she's going to tell people when they aske what happened to her car...

"&%*$@# cyclist!!!"

That video made me smile as it's the first one I've seen where I recognise the road. though I'll now be carefull when cycling down there.

Funnily enough that is where my brother and I nearly ran into a cyclist.
We were driving the same way as that car, at about 11pm on a Sunday night, when we saw said cyclist coming towards us. He had no lights and was swerving all over the road, before turning right into a drive.
Luckily we had both spotted him and had slowed right down to see which way he might go. We guess he may have just been kicked out of the pub.

Love how she thinks Shall I Stop no, Damn - Rather than stop she stubbornly thinks I'll carry on regardless of what happens to the car.

I honestly don't think some people even think, or look ahead, in suchh circumstances. I've lost count of the number of times I've been pretty much fully occupying a narrow space - in a car, truck or on a bike - and someone's come sailing into it the opposite way when it must have been obvious there was nowhere to go.

You were stopped. At that point there were choices for both of you, to stay where you were, back up a bit or carry on. The Monday morning quarterback in me thinks she might have been better off reversing up, letting yoiu through, then resuming her journey. You stopped in a position where you were clearly visible to her, there wasn't much time for you to back up, she started moving forward (possibly being stubborn) and gave her Audi a nice new textured-look paint job. Her car at the time of the impact was the only motive vehicle, she is at fault.

oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

Some people are just thick.

I was out on a nice ride yesterday morning, and nearly got run off the road 3 times.

Every single one of the offenders were "cyclists". or at least they were riding a bike. just cutting across the road in front of me, veering towards me and nearly taking out my front wheel... 3 times... mental! the drivers were all well behaved.

Good on the Ipswich Driving fraternity. you are (usually) an example to the rest of them!

It is little wonder that car drivers don't exactly love cyclists, what a sanctimonious bunch you are!

The parked cars were on your side of the road, which means that 'she' had right of way. In the real world common sense usually swiftly sorts out these situations but there was a shortage of that on both sides here, but more so on yours.

You could have easily have moved your bike over to the left to let her through once you'd both stopped, it would have been a lot easier than her reversing. Neither of you were blameless, it was just one of those things, but you stubbornly just sat there and let her scrape her car. Very mature.

One more car driver who thinks that cyclists are arrogant twats. Ten out of ten dude.
