Valentines day has crept up on me this year. Fortunately I had a lot of food in the house, so with all the recent snow, I haven't been out much. However, I've just got back from Sainsburys, where they have an aisle full of heart-shaped, pink and red stuff.

So, what do the Cycle Chatters think? Fun for everyone? Boring and lonely for single people? Just another over-commercialised date in the diary? Who's looking forward to it? Who's dreading it? Anyone taking their partner somewhere special for a surprise proposal? Anyone had a partner who completely forgot?

My own view, I'm single, and although it would be nice to have someone to snuggle up with, its only one day a year, and it's over-commercialised. Maybe next year!

I love Mrs CP everyday of the year, and don't need to waste hard earned cash to be seen to participate in commercial carp.....

I used to take a friend out for a meal (we'd split the bill) on valentines day when we were at uni, she met someone and so they did something together and I took a different friend out, normally for pizza.

I liked pizza

We do use it as an excuse to go and do something together as it's so easy to find ourselves at the end of an evening we had set aside to do something with her watching "help I've got the strictly x factor's got talent get me out of here and call the midwife" and me playing with the laptop / building my model railway in the coffee table and we've not actually spent the evening 'together' merely in each other's presence.

we exchange cards, but the 12 red roses and a meal out is nonsense, unless you are trying to impress an new partner.

We ignore it. Both of us refuse to be told by convention when to buy a pressie for each other. I got Packrat a pressie the other week, just because it was Thursday and I thought that he might like it. This week he bought me Sherlock on DVD for a 'just because' pressie.

I love Packrat on every day of the year. I don't love him any extra on valentines day, well not any more than the usual daily extra love that goes with a good relationship.

Two years ago we went to see a one man show about the Israeli 'peace wall' around the West Bank on Valentines day. We both thoroghly enjoyed it.

Mr Thomas? I'm guessing it was as there can't have been that many people touring a similar show at the same time, think I saw it in April.

I can't remember what we did for valentines day last year and will have to see what occurs this time round.
