I would say that the government got more back in VAT than it gave out in allowance last time. It also took some very nice small low mileage cars out of the market place, it was sad to see sub 20,000 miles cars going off to be crushed.

Yes
My neighbour got £2000 scrappage last time, for his lovely Citroen Xara with very low mileage and lovingly cared for.
Near showroom condition when "she" was scrapped.

My local garage owner told me he nearly cried when he saw some of the cars going to the crusher.

I scrapped my last car with Vachall to get my current car. I got more than selling it privately which surprised me.

This is an interesting point. The manufacturers are publicly claiming its to get cleaner cars on the road, reduce pollution etc etc. However, we all know that is poop and its simply tapping into public environmental concern to make themselves loads a money.

Anyway, taking a clean, perfectly serviceable car such as this and raping the planet to build another to replace it is hardly good news for pollution. You wouldn't throw away half a meal or a perfectly serviceable pair of shoes and claim its good for the environment.
