Leaving in late April two not so fit cyclists to do the Velo 6 route over a leisurely 10-11 weeks. We intend to camp as much as possible and a friend will be with us for first week and our wifes for two weeks when at Budapest, all cycling. Flights etc booked.

We are 49 and 56 slightly overweight who have done a little bit of cycle camping in the past, we intend to do about 35-50mls a day with rest days and little detours to see things. No doubt as we get cycle fit the distances will increase, we are not superfit cyclists.

Any advice or well balanced person who would like to join.

You'll love the route. You've got the right idea about pace and sight seeing. The medieval curches and cathedrals are wonderous as are the cave dwellings at Saumer for starters. I was chateau'd out. There's no large hills unless you do as I did and climb out of the Loire valley. I broke my journey at Beaune to return home. I'm returning to Beaune to ride to Vienna this summer.

My key bit of advice is don't adhere slavishly to the canals and riverside. You'll miss some great villages if you do.

I'd not worry about your weight or fitness. I'm grossly overweight and eat miles effortlessly.
