good news! (of sorts)

Michael Hopkins' Olympic Velodrome has been shortlisted for the 2012 Stirling Prize

the bad news is that
- the other projects (at least those I've seen) are rubbish
- the best vantage point for the velodrome is from the A12, from which bikes are banned.

still, and all, it's great that its getting some recognition. I confess I have seen it from the A12, and it's very, very striking

Looking at the roof, I'm left wondering if he got the design idea after waking up one morning after a really wild party and saw a tube of Pringles knocked over on the table?

I like the idea of using wood (I'm assuming it's wood?) latting on the outside - sort of taking the "track" and wrapping it on the outside (when you'd expect it to be only on the inside).

Cheers,
Shaun
