Vernon Cleveland Levy, yes that is his full name.A wonderful name for a remarkable man.
I will begin with the ending words of the service.
If there is an afterlife-then i hope the weather is fine and the inclines are not too steep
and there is always a hint of a tailwind...keep those pedals turning Vernon.
Both Chapels were full, there were so many people,School had closed early in his memory.
As the Celebrant-Carl Keeting spoke about the life of Vernon, laughter rang out.Tales of his love of pies. His pie chart. His love of setting things on fire, music, festivals and travelling. Many relating to his love of cycle touring.CycleChat was mentioned more than once.
His lovely family spoke of a hands on dad,a loving husband. The story of the firework/rocket that nearly exploded inside the house was told to us by his son.
I spoke to one of his brothers,Vernon was one of six brothers, home town Darlington. All had the same likeness.I explained how CycleChat had lost a true friend.
I met four neighbours, two who i had never met, despite living here for twenty five years.i was approaching people finding out how they knew Vernon,Hoping to find a fellow CC member.
One chap i approached, told me he was one of Vernon's old students.Another shared digs with Vernon during his student days at Leeds Uni.I made a bee line for one chap, who i had seen with a big smile on his face,as stories were told about Vernon,it turned out he was Vernon's assistant when he was Head of Science. He told me of his happy memories of music festivals with Vernon.
I was able to tell a few about your plans to remember Vernon at 13-40 with a pie and pint, the meeting together next week, our pir rides, that brought some responses.
Ofsted even liked Vernon, giving him a glowing report on his teaching.
We have shared in Vernon's life either on a bike, computer or in person. He was a remarkable man, admired and loved by all that knew him,the turn out showed that today.
He filled his life cup to the brim,he will be missed by many.
i don't think i have missed much out,so i will finish with the Epitaph from the service.
(Vernon Cleveland Levy, this is just wonderful)
An honest man here lies at rest.
As e'er God with his image blest
the friend of man -the friend of truth.
The friend of age -and guide of youth.
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm'd.
Few heads with knowledge so informed.
If there is another world-he lives in bliss
If there is none-ne made the best of his.
I have just found something else from the order.Something i believe in.
How shall we laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again.
We shall Vernon.R.I.P. big man.
