Indeed it is. And if you muck about with the brake, you will invalidate the guarantee.

Tell the bike shop that you want the bike fixed, under guarantee (as is their duty) by a certain (reasonable) date - say seven days' time. Tell them that if they don't fix it, you will hire another bike at their expense, until they return your bike to you with the problem resolved. Put all this in writing. If the shop is part of a chain (eg Halford's or Evans or whatever) copy your letter to the head office.

You have recourse to the Small Claims Court if all goes pear shaped.

And if it is still very pear-shaped, take up Bonj's offer, and jump on the train to Sheffield.
