This happened a couple of weeks ago. Should I have been in a stronger position? Not sure if he listened to what I was telling him.

It was jolly close.

I think your position was OK. By that, I mean it's where I would have been, so it must be OK.

Looks like the sort of thing one would shrug off had it not been for the junction. As he'd stopped, it seems fair to mention it to him.

You were diplomatic, polite and clear when you spoke.

Others may disagree with me, but a stronger position would probably have availed you nothing. His speed and trajectory appear to have been selected without thought for you. You might just have made yourself closer to the danger.

I think that even if you were in a stronger position he would still have passed you too close.

Thanks, I thought I'd see whether people thought I should have done something differently. I know you're all not shy about pointing out where people could improve!!

Of course, it's obvious that I only engineered the situation for the YouTube footage!

Your road position looks fine for the road, the same can't be said for the camera position. Due to your rack obscuring the view it's hard to see what's going on with the van & thus comment on the video.

Yeah, I need to fiddle around with it and try and mount it over the top of the rack bag. Tricky.

You've received only supportive comments on this thread. Why are you looking for a row?

speaking as an INSTRUCTOOOOORRR (just had to get that in LOL) i would say, in my wisdom and wiseness....

the guy is an arse and probably wouldn't have made any difference if you were in "position 2"

he still would have passed you close as it wasn't like he was squeezing past, there was no one in the lane next to him.

well done for not swearing. i would have

Difficult to guage properly from the camera angle but certainly looked a bit close and you dealt with the situation in a rational and calm manner, well played.

Hopefully the driver will be a bit more considerate next time.
