Well, due to gymnastics, swimming, ballet and tap, learning to ride a bike has been left longer than it should have been. But today, my daughter was away after spending less than two hours combined yesterday and today on her new bike. Most impressively she has the balance to put her foot down on the ground when she feels like she's lost the balance.
On Tuesday I stopped at one of the LBS and spotted a second-hand Dawes 6 speed 'Rocker' in a neutral black and so yesterday we took her along and it fitted just right...she's quite big for a five-year-old and despite the neutral colour (which I wanted) with some girly tassle and a Disney bell
it looks pretty punk-rock in a girly kind of way. Plus, the lower gears make it an easier ride for her and I had a job when she needed my hand on the seat post to keep up with her!
After some initial 'don't let go's' today I did just that and away she went! Elated is not the word and she loves it. Feel free to share your own experiences but I'm so happy for her and she's even started her own cycling diary (with a slight nudge from me).
