Yes I've read that and it is a sad situation for pro riders. I suppose the fact that these velodromes are situated in big towns and cities makes the problem of driver worse. If they were rurally sited miles from busy roads the problem wouldn't exist.

Um, it's a sad situation for anyone who wants to ride a bike on the road! Of course, it only really matters if someone is famous and medal winning....;)

Since those of us who live in towns kinda have to cycle there, to get anywhere, the problem very much exists, and isn't going away....

Lets hope just a few idiots read this and get the point...

Reminds me of when she was on TV saying the same thing a couple of years ago. I can't remember the exact words that she used but I remember that the way that she said it, and the words that she used, made it sound like she was implying that her life was more important, and that if she was hit/injured/killed it would be worse than if it happened to a 'normal' cyclist. Perhaps she didn't mean to come across like that, but I think she could have chosen her words more carefully.

Alan Turing Way (nr Velodrome where Emma Davies-Jones was hit) has a segregated cycle path which rejoins the main carriageway at each junction. You have to be very aware of traffic to your right as you rejoin (cos motorists won't be). Its supposedly 30mph too, but as a 4 lane orbital road, av speed is way higher.

and do you believe she was implying that ? IMO people are reading far too much into whats written or being said.

Well, she said something like '...these drivers don't realise that if they knock me off, they're not just injuring any old cyclist, they're injuring a world champion'. Doesn't that sound a bit of a self-important attitude to you?

Believe what you like; if you didn't hear what she said then how can you think people read too much into it?

Knock it off people. It's great that she's using her time in the spotlight to try and draw attention to cycling safety. Thank you my girl, hats off from the pig camp.

Maybe she should get a helmet camera. No joke. Can you imagine the interest that the press and the polie would give to an olympi medalist providing examples of the problems cyclist face.

If anyone had contact details for her, I would seriously suggest it, if she is serious about making a difference.

Very good point, indeed!

The plight of the cyclist might be taken seriously!

That's actually a really good idea, but Victoria Pendleton isn't the one to contact. You should suggest the idea to the BBC who, if they thought it was a good idea, would ask Victoria if she was willing to do it.

 It's worth a try though isn't it! I would stalk her if I had the chance.

No I am deadly serious. If someone like that got a camera and posted on youtube the videos of what happened to them, it would be dynamite! What patriotic driver would want to be caught on an olympic medalists camera.

Of course contacting her now would be all but impossible. I'm sure a lot of people would want to for various reasons.
