Victoria->Paddington 17 mins to make connection

I agree that the Brompton is a marvel of mass-transit, urban-commuter engineering, much as the FX4 was in its day.

What strikes me about some Brompton proponents is their habit of taking themselves, their opinions and their folders IMMENSELY seriously.

To the OP, I didn't really think you might be a circus strongman and I don't really think folders aren't proper bicycles. I was joshing.

But... If arriving at Paddington with a folder on the Cathedrals Express, do look out for my shins when leaving the train. They're just below my knees and are sensitive to folder-strike.

Thank you.

PS. Most of the rest of my advice was serious.

ooh a crossover commuting / folding bike post. For the record as an ex-dahon now brommie owner I find the Brompton much more stable, stands up properly on the train, luggage better. I do the train commute so "proper" bike isn't an option.

To get back on to the original post subject, you should try the commute without a bike to see how long it takes to get out Victoria station. My money would be on 5 mins at least, getting the bike through the barriers can be a bit of a pain.

I used to ride regularly from Victoria to Baker Street on a Brompton. 16 minutes if I was feeling zippy - and that was from a street next to the station, so no barrier to get round. Seventeen minutes from Victoria to Marylebone would be very difficult.

Owning a Brompton is like marrying someone who's a good cook, mother and housewife but has no sense of humour. Ticks a lot of boxes but you're not going to smile much.
