Video Converter?

The freebie software I use for converting files to mp4 places a little logo bang in the middle of the video. Which is understandable, but looks crap. Anyone know of one that a) doesn't do this and b) isn't crap? I did find one at mediaconverter.com, but the quality of the conversion wasn't good...

Is there any specific reason for converting to mp4?

If you do not mind .avi output files then virtualdub is free.

I use Ripbot264. It is pretty easy to use and seems to give good results and is free.

For internet video sharing - getting the clip out via various social media etc. I don't know an awful lot about file types, but I understood mp4 to be where it's at with this stuff.

Super is rather more fully featured (read: potentially complex).

I used any video converter and Hamster for my dissertation project they work but aren't the fastest; I also downloaded a 28d free trial of something else it was around 3 times as fast.

What are you converting from? You may not actually need to convert the video to upload it where you need to.
