This video is been discussed on the police specials forum, some interesting comments on there.
Apologies to any plod on here, but after reading comments like:
"it's close but not close enough, the cyclist doesn't even need to swerve out the way"
"I'm childish so would banged on the blue and twos just to make him fall off his bike"
"00:34, cyclist video fads to black. As he runs the red light probably."
Sadly, the term 'pig ignorant' comes to mind...
I'm 46. I've had 35 years being on 'plods side'. I've got mates who are in plod, PCSOs and the prison service. The last 10 however.... I don't want to, but I'm seriously reconsidering my opinion.

Ignore the tossers on that forum. I am in the job and no one I know goes on it in their spare time, most are ignorant young wannabes looking for tips to get in the job, or overly enthusiastic PCSOs or Specials.
Not all cops are ignorant cyclist haters, a lot of coppers actually cycle themselves. This looks like another one off with a cop who's unfortunately in the wrong and has been caught pants down.

I think it is much like some of the topics on this forum, starts of with a few stupid statements, then a discussion about a minor potential transgression of the law and finally ends up with comments actually making sense.

Out of interest, are there any cyclists on this forum that believe the cyclist on this video should have pulled into the bus lane and back out to turn right?

I'm quite new to cycling, so don't have any strong opinion on the subject.

From what I can gather, it's the cyclist's right to be where he was - I just wondered if anyone on here thinks they may have approached the situation differently?

Always difficult to make a judgement from a camera shot and not being familiar with the area. But I think I would have probably done the same.

If I was turning right 100 yards up the road (as he said he would have if he hadn't changed his mind and chased the copper), then yes. He was moving at a decent pace, and once you pull in left it can sometimes be very awkward pulling out again.

I cycle the same road as the cyclist in the video, and take the same right turn he was going to. There is no point in moving into the bus lane and then back out again.

Bit of a tangent, but why do the MET need such hideously expensive vehicles...?

How many MET vehicles have seen some muck, let alone been driven offroad?!
Granted the running costs of a more expensive but reliable car over time could prove more economical, but I struggle to believe that an Astra/Mondeo/etc. would work out more expensvie than Range Rovers, BMW 5-series, X5's/X6's, etc?

I used to work next to the City Police HQ in Wood St. & the value of the vehicles coming in/out would make your eyes water...
