'Viking' sets bells a-ringing, and sure enough, the only review googling reveals gives it 1/5. That's what people hereabouts call a BSO - a Bike Shaped Object. If you want a bike at that kind of price range go second hand, or if you insist on new, try Decathlon, which is probably about as good as you'll find around that price bracket. get

18 months ago I'd have totally agreed with swee'pea99 on this one, and as regards the particular bike you've mentioned I probably still do.

However, after a mate of mine completed 10 months training, and the IRONMAN UK on a Viking last year, they have as a brand gained a lot more of my respect.

I would never normally recommend anyone buy a bike that is sold by the likes of Bikes2uDirect, but he used a VIKING TRI-RACE, and I'll tell you what, it never missed a beat despite what he put it through.

Also, Angelfishsolo, (a former CC'er), ran a Viking, the model alludes me just now, and he had nothing but praise for his.

Would I buy one? TBH no I wouldn't, my money would go down the second hand route as swee'pea suggests, but the moral of the story must be to never judge a book by it's cover.

What does this mean

combination of a 12-23T cassette and 42/52T chainset provides the sort of gear range a hardman pro rider would have competed on decades ago.

What 12 -23t cassette ????
42/52t chain set ????

It means if you aren't exceptionally fit you will be pushing it, a lot.

Unless where you live is panflat.

It's a decent for the price. It's a bit heavy, around 11.5kg. Add that to the gearing it can be a bit of a pig on hills, but remember rule number 5 and all that.. Look at changing the pedals asap. The set that come with it are really uncomfortable and the toe cages are really flimsy.
