Jonas waiting to get out the tailwind...starts working
Jonas not working
He doesn’t do himself any favours. Fortune not favours the brave and all that.
It made an ugly spectacle.
Bit harsh maybe?
First he makes the bridge across - an all out effort. Then he does a small amount of work when it looks like they might stay away. Then his team car tells him it's like 15 seconds and he should give it up so he does, then they're back out to 25" again and Remco crashes. It was Remco's project, his first mission was to shadow and neutralise the threat, there was little reason for him to invest much more than that and he didn't. Big mountains the next few days, no point in burning yourself for a few seconds the day before

Hmmm, possibly!
I found it an uncomfortable watch though. His mindset is more cautious.
More cautious, or more long term maybe? He's going to attempt a Giro-Tour double this year, so going off-piste here might be a longer term mistake.
Anyway, I can see why people didn't like it, but it wasn't his move, he just covered it. Remco would have been well within his rights to stop working as well (in a slightly less drastic fashion...), or to try and drop him. This wasn't some leech on the morning's break, this was a direct competitor that attacked.
Why did he crash
