Qualified volunteer supervisor here (National Trust and others). At that age it would really be a case of the parent(s) or guardian volunteering and bringing the children with them. NT have a minimum age of 18 below which youngsters must be supervised, and seeing as it is not always possible to arrange a staff supervisor the parent or guardian must be present. Other organisations have different limits, but they are nearly all bound by their insurance, risk assessments DBS (replacement for CRB) checks etc. So find something you want to do and take the children.

What about your girls raising money for something? They could pick a charity/cause to support, decide to make something to sell - cakes or homemade cards or something - then set up a little stall or take them to school to sell.

You often hear at Children in Need/Comic relief/etc time that "little Johnny, 5, has raised x by selling home made biscuits".

Does the young one go to a nursery?

Have they ever thought of organising a group event?

My sister got her two, when they were younger (now 9 & 7) to sort through the toys and clothes they no longer used. They had to choose things that they though other kids would like that were still in good condition (not much in my nephews case). Then they packed them up to go to their new homes. Made them think about others, sharing and that not all kids are as fortunate as them.
