What we need is to set up the opportunity to vote for the SMP in every single constituency in the UK.

If we start now we have enough time to make it work.

Every constituency has a 'silent majority'- those people fed up with, or disenfranchised by, the political choice they have which makes them apathetic about voting.

Well, here it is, theSMP, 'the Silent Majority Party'.... a chance for every person on the electoral roll, who is sick and tired of the system, to have a voice and a vote.

If people think it's a good idea we can get a poll on 38 Degrees or similar to go national before Christmas.... then we have political clout to do something positive. Are you in?

This way protest votes can count because the public needs to know their vote has meaning... while there is time to do something.

In addition to the silent majority, the SMP would pick up those protest voters who could otherwise vote for alternative candidates whom they didn't really want either... + the spoilt paper voters.

Vote SMP in a national opinion poll like 38 degrees and it starts politicising the public in time for May...with time to analyse and cross reference the manifestos in detail... raise the political debate above Farage's smirk. Real MPs for real constituencies.

You could cut out the mutiple rounds of voting and just go straight for STV.

Worked for our Uni elections
No, that needs to be raised as a bill and passed in parliament... voting SMP in a national 'no confidence poll' is accessible and meaningful.

Ive always thought a none-of-the-above option should appear on every ballot paper... if it tops the poll the election must be re-run and the bottom candidate eliminated on each re-run.
This way is more direct and isn't a post ballot reaction, it's positive and direct and throws down a challenge.

The other thing is that it is an attempt to get people motivated to not sit back and do nothing, so if they look at the real issues and reach a strong conviction that their local parties have got it roight then they vote and make a difference.... but it ensures that where people are in politically secure seats they are disenfranchised- voting for the SMP gives them a voice.

I don't agree with a lot of your political posts but this one is absolutely right. Would work even better if voting was made compulsory.
